LCS, Littoral Combat Ship

(3 votes - 0 comments - 44 views)
The Littoral Combat Ship is the first design of the U.S. Navy's next-generation surface combatants. Intended as a relatively small surface vessel for operations in the littoral region (close to shore), the LCS is smaller than the Navy's guided missile frigates, and has been compared to the corvette of international usage. However, the LCS adds the capabilities of a small assault transport with a flight deck and hangar large enough to base two SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, the capability to recover and launch small boats from a stern ramp, and enough cargo volume and payload to deliver a small assault force with armored vehicles to a roll-on/roll-off port facility. Although the LCS design offers air defense and surface-to-surface capabilities comparable to destroyers with 57 mm guns, torpedo and missile launchers, the concept emphasizes speed, flexible mission module space and a shallow draft.

(15 votes - 3 comments - 328 views)
"Days Go By" is a song by the band Dirty Vegas from their eponymous album. The song became a radio hit in 2002 and received the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. "Days Go By" received significant public exposure in a commercial for a Mitsubishi car that year as a 2003 model. The music video for the song is unusual in that it largely consists of two dancers representing one character performing a routine of popping, locking, the robot and breakdancing in front of a restaurant in East Los Angeles, California. The video was also filmed there. The young dancer in the video is Garland Spencer. The older dancer is Byron McIntyre.

(15 votes - 12 comments - 382 views)
The Format is an indie band formed by Arizona natives Nate Ruess and Sam Means. Their style can be considered a mixture of both indie and alternative with throwbacks to pop music throughout the ages. This makes it difficult to place them in any one particular genre due to their use of various stylistic influences. Their diverse mix of sounds and exploration of different musical combinations set them apart from most indie bands.

(15 votes - 2 comments - 350 views)
Before Less Than Jake, Vocalist and guitarist Chris Demakes and drummer Vinnie Fiorello led a local band named Good Grief with bassist Shaun Grief while attending high school in Port Charlotte, Florida. Good Grief broke up when Chris moved north to attend the University of Florida at Gainesville, Florida. On July 13th, 1992, what would become Less Than Jake was born. While Shaun moved to New York City (he would later return as the band's roadie), Chris and Vinnie started writing songs on the weekends before Vinnie joined Chris at the University of Florida. When Vinnie arrived, the two decided they needed a bass player. But first, they wanted a name. They decided to name the band after the dog Vinnie's family had owned while growing up in New Jersey. An 80lbs. pit bull, the pet was treated far more generously by his parents than, indeed, Vinnie himself was. With its own spot on the couch and takeout food ordered specifically to feed it, most everything else in the house was dubbed as being "less than Jake."

(17 votes - 0 comments - 252 views)
"Foxy Lady" (or "Foxey Lady" as it is known in USA) is a song by Jimi Hendrix from his 1967 album Are You Experienced, featured as the lead track on the official UK edition. It can also be found on a number of his greatest hits compilations, including Smash Hits (1968/1969) and Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix (1997). The Rolling Stone magazine placed the song at #152 in their "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.

The USA version of Are You Experienced (also released in Canada) listed the song with a spelling mistake as "Foxey lady" and this is how it is still unfortunately known among USA fans and critics today. The rest of the world, however, spells it without an "e".

Foxey is actually an archaic alternative spelling. Foxy or Foxey, amongst other things can mean rank, or stinking. Although in this context that would seem ridiculous.

The song is best known for its repeated guitar riff using the thumb on the lower string in F# and solo, and is one of Hendrix's earliest uses of feedback in a studio recording. The song is also known for its use of the Hendrix chord.

Kathy Etchingham, Jimi's girlfriend at the time, claimed to be one of many inspirations for "Foxy Lady".

[wikip]
After a bill outlawing secret police squads is passed, Section 9 is dissolved by excessive force and goes on the run. With all the members except Motoko and Batou captured, Batou heads to one of Motoko's safehouses, in the hope of regrouping with her. However, the safehouse is a trap, and the military moves in to neutralise Batou. Meanwhile, the remaining tachikomas (the rest having been dismanteled after being sent to the labs due to their developing sentience) also regroup, but back at the ruins of Section 9 HQ. They decide to try and find Batou to help him, but will they arrive soon enough? (taken from YT description.)
