Now is the time for a *health channel. Who's with me?

Call me impatient, but we're in the middle of a huge conflict in the US political sphere over what to do with health care.

We've been griping for years about needing a health channel. Well, now is the time.

I don't care who runs it, I don't care whether it's *health, *medicine, *nurses, *bandaids or whatever, we need a channel for health, medicine, and medical policy videos, and we need it now.

I keep on hoping that one of the diamond members without a channel yet will make a Health or Medical channel, but just like universal health care in America, it ain't gonna happen without a mandate from the electorate. Make it so, I say. Give it to any Gold star or above who is interested. If there's more than one person who wants it, then it should go to the member with the most star points.

i was gonna make one when i got 250.
and, i thought mauz was working on this?

I was but I got no answer from lucky, so I started a related playlist.
I can manage a health channel with no problems. I even have a constantly updated playlist
http://www.videosift.com/playlists/mauz15/Medicine and if you go through it real quick, you will see I have been posting a lot of medical/human body content, I keep the posts well tagged and explained.

The only thing keeping me from making it is the fact that before I obtained the diamond, the management of the philosophy channel was transferred to me by the previous owner (bluecliff) so by the time I reached diamond, the spot or link that let's you create a channel was already filled.

Unless it is given to mauz, I'd say we should wait until a newly-made diamond creates it - I want somebody who knows their stuff running a channel - which is why for example rottenseed is in charge of *Drugs and also why I didn't create *health or *h2o (for all things water), two of the channels we most need, imho, when I became a bronze diamond.

It's an important channel, I think, but I am bothered when people who are so well known for using current politics to their benefit try to change things around here because it smells of partisan hackery rather than genuine desire to better the Sift. Especially when you write the options to sound so evil when you vote no and so pro-awesome when you vote yes. I will proudly vote NO in protest, thank you.

hey, impatient. the us health care conflict doesn't immediately affect me as i'm in the uk and i have no compassion when it comes to non-brits/non-shauns.

however, we are currently knee-deep in an angry buzzard crisis over here and i would therefore love to see a redesigned poll which included the option to back a *buzzard channel, the creation of which would allow us to organise the endless videos related to said crisis.

the ball's in your court. i await the redesign with both baited breath and itchy finger.

We don't need any channels, per se. They're useful, but only a few of them are genuinely necessary. It's not as if there are hundreds of orphaned healthcare videos roaming the sift without a home.

I'd welcome a *health channel, but there's no urgent NEED to create one now.

Eh, kidding aside, I'm kinda confused why the idea of creating a health channel is even the slightest bit controversial.

Yeah, I'm into politics, and most of my contributions to such a channel would be the intersection of politics and health, or news and health. That's why I don't want to run it, it's not really my bag.

But I think it's been a long desired channel, and we clearly have some people who'd want to do a health channel the way it should be done (a focus on health and medicine).

So, why wait? Let's make it happen.

If you find the idea of unnaturally accelerating the process, or entrusting a channel to sub-250-star members upsets your moral sensibilities, hammer the "no" option. That's what it's there for.

It's not like siftler dag has made any indication of whether this is anything more than cheap entertainment anyways.

Yes, but only as long as it's called "medicine."
No, the idea isn't supposed to be about healthcare, it's supposed to be about health, the human body and related medical practices and technology.

By the same token, should people have to choose between Politics and Money when the video is about the national debt?

Should people have to choose between News and Science if it's the media doing a story about a scientific discovery?

What about a news report on H1N1 that contains a statement from the CDC about the policy it's going to put in place? Are you saying it shouldn't be permitted in a health channel because I'd put it in politics as well?

We call 'em channels, but let's face it, they're more like built-in tags. I can understand wanting to exclude things that clearly don't belong (e.g. no cat fart videos in health, unless it's about the negative effects of long-term exposure to them...), but I don't get why you'd say healthcare policy has no place in a health/medicine channel.

If I'm misunderstanding something fundamental about how we're supposed to use channels, please let me know.

If I'm just getting picked on because I'm an easy target, let me know that too.
