There's always been plenty of crackpot theories and prophets out there, but let's face it, the world is in a pretty bleak place and there's good reason to wonder if we may be in the "end times". Whether it's World War III, the 2nd coming of Christ, sun storms, reversal of Earth's magnetic poles, the Mayan calendar, Nostradamus, super volcanoes, the large hadron collider, global warming, a one world government, plagues, alien invasion or aliens revealing themselves to Earth, .. or an asteroid the size of blankfists ego .. it seems there's always something out to get us at any moment. Some mammals seem to have an instinct for danger, so I ask my fellow humans .. how do you feel?

The question is .. how many of you feel (for whatever reason) that there will be some event "soon" that will change life for humanity as we know it now?

Keep in mind this could be a positive or negative change (depending on the event and your perspective) but it will affect everyone in some way.
For this poll, "imminent" means within the next 10 years.

I didn't consider an asteroid or whether or not the sun will burn out. I was thinking much smaller in terms of the Mayan calendar bullshit. Certainly the sun will burn out and the Earth will get hit by something and eventually the entire universe will begin to contract!

Virtually every generation thinks that theirs is particularly troubled and that the end of days may be nigh. Doomsday beliefs in one form or another have been around for millennia. Maybe we are teetering on the edge of the abyss right now, but I don't think so. Even world war doesn't mean the end of mankind. World War II killed over 50 million people, but it was far from threatening to the entire species. Even if we had nuclear war there would still be survivors in many unbombed areas of the globe. I won't deny that nuclear war would be catastrophic, but so was Black Death, which wiped out anywhere from 30% to 60% of Europe's population between 1348 and 1350.

In fact the only thing that concerns me is some sort of super virus that spreads easily and kills rapidly. Ever see "Twelve Monkeys"? Something like that. But not knowing a goddamn thing about virology or infectious diseases, I don't know how likely such an event would be.

BOO!
